Somasound (1998-1999) was the re-invention of Soma, when the band was shocked to find (from a disappointed local punter) that there was another band that went by the same name. At this time, Dave S was starting to experiment with recordings using a Tascam 4 track recorder and the band was moving in a more experimental prog rock direction, whilst still maintaining a funk element. Nick Blaxell also recorded an EP for the band which was released on CD. Dave S began taking his home recording in a more advanced step by acquiring a Tascam 4 track recorder, PZM plus Shure and AKG microphones, a Behringer multi effects rack and an Art vocal pre amp. With Gary’s handy work, a “tidy unit” was created which allowed the 4 track and rack unit to be easily transported on a trolley from jam to jam. Tapes were subsequently made from this week to week to study the band’s performance and get “match fit”. By this time the band was rehearsing weekly and playing gigs at the Cat&Fiddle, Three Weeds and Northpoint Tavern to name a few Sydney venues. Sadly Mark Jurd left the band for a move and a lifestyle change.
